Rules & Regulations
Pro-Am Policies
  1. All Adult students may dance in 2 age categories: their true age category and 1 consecutively younger age.

  2. All Youth students may dance in 2 age categories: their true age category and 1 age consecutively older.

  3. Dance Levels:
    Materials should be based on an NDCA approved syllabus and be compliant with NDCA restrictions

    • Newcomer
    • Bronze I
    • Bronze II
    • Bronze III
    • Bronze IV
    • Open Bronze
    • Silver I
    • Silver II
    • Open Silver
    • Gold I
    • Gold II
    • Open Gold
    • Advanced
    • Open Advanced
  4. Students may dance up to 4 consecutive levels in a single style of dance. Students may enter completely different levels in different styles of dance.

  5. A teacher may dance with only 1 student in any single style/age/level combination (a teacher may not dance against himself at any time).

  6. In any event with fewer than 3 entrants, the organizer reserves the right to either combine the event with another similar event, or to cancel the event altogether.

  7. Pro/Am Scholarships: To qualify to dance a scholarship event, the student must ENTER AND DANCE a minimum of 5 single dances in the same style as the scholarship event (4 for Smooth Scholarship) .

  8. All Pro/Am Multi-Dance and Pro/Am Scholarships are unisex events.

  9. Closed Scholarships are syllabus restricted; Open Scholarships are not.

  10. In any scholarship event with fewer than 3 entrants, the organizer reserves the right to combine the event with another similar event, to reduce the prize money award by half, and/or the cancel the event altogether.

  11. Student may enter a maximum of 4 scholarship event per style (1 closed scholarship & 1 open scholarship in 2 ages).

  12. Student may not enter a scholarship below the level of the highest proficiency danced in single dances in that style.

  13. Solo Exhibitions may not exceed 2:45 total. Music must be provided in a digital form (usb flash drive preferred).

  14. Dress Code: Costumes are not mandatory at any level, however all Preteen/Junior/Youth competitors must adhere to the current NDCA dress codes at all times.

  15. All closed events will be inviglated by an NDCA approved invigilator; competitors committing infractions may be penalized.

  16. Cancellations must be made in writing 30 days prior to the event; all refunds will be made within 30 days after the event. Cancellations will not be accepted during the event. In the event of a substantiated medical emergency, credit toward the next year's entries may be extended at the sole discretion of the organziers.

  17. No substitutions for entries will be made during the event.

  18. Due to IRS requirements, all competitors entered in a Scholarship Event must fill a W-9 form PRIOR to receiving their competition materials.

Amateur Policies
  1. Age classifications will become effective on the person’s birthday; in a year where a person is moving from one age category to another, he/she may make that change in a period beginning 30 days prior to the birthday and ending 30 after the birthday.

  2. Youth Age Categories:

    • TB (teddy bear; 0-7)
    • P1 (preteen 1; 8-9)
    • P2 (preteen 2; 10-11)
    • J1 (junior 1; 12-13)
    • J2 (junior 2: 14-15)
    • YH (youth; 16-18)
  3. Youth Amateur couples may dance in their true age category and one age category immediately older.

  4. A Youth couple's age is determined by the age of the older partner. An Adult couple's age is determined by the age of the younger partner.

  5. Adult amateur couples may dance in 2 consecutive age categories, their true age and 1 age category younger.

  6. Amateur couples may dance in 2 consecutive levels only.

  7. In any event with fewer than 3 entrants, the organizer reserves the right to either combine the event with another similar event, or to cancel the event altogether.

  8. In any Scholarship event with fewer than 3 entrants, the organizer reserves the right to combine the event with another similar event, to reduce the prize money award by half, or the cancel the event altogether.

  2. Professional entry fees include admission to the ballroom for those sessions in which the couple is dancing.

  3. Due to IRS requirements, all competitors entered in a Scholarship Event must fill in a W-9 for PRIOR to receiving their competition materials.

All persons attending this event, whether as spectators, officials, competitors or guests shall be bound by the NDCA rules, and by participating in this event become obligated to adhere to them.

The Organizers of this competition and the NDCA are not responsible for the loss or theft of articles left behind in changing rooms, ballrooms or hotel rooms.

The Organizers and the NDCA will not be held liable for injuries sustained by persons attending this event; all spectators, officials, competitors and guests attending do so at their own risk.

Because of NDCA rules, no personal video-taping or filming will be allowed. A professional Video production company will be available to film your dancing and tapes will be available for purchase
